COVID-19 didn’t stop the Halloween fun for dozens of children who took part in a special Trunk or Treat event for Lighthouse PATH participants. About 40 children ages 7-17 took part in the event with candy, costumes, and spooky decorations galore.
Sponsored by the Junior League of Birmingham, the outdoor event held last week featured 11 decorated vehicles parked a safe distance apart, packed with treats for kids and moms alike.
“This was really cool,” said 7-year-old Lyric. “My favorite was the French fry car!”
To keep things safe and festive, Junior League members and volunteers distributed the candy while PATH staffers worked to ensure families, divided into three groups, remained safely spaced apart. The Junior League provided everything from the candy and costumes to Halloween-themed face masks and treat bags.
“We are so grateful,” said Shannon Smith, Lighthouse’s director of housing and community development. “The Junior League truly went the extra mile to provide a safe celebration for PATH families.”
