Every day, families in our community face impossible choices between housing, food, childcare, transportation, and other basic necessities. As costs continue to rise, more families are finding themselves in crisis, searching for safety, stability, and hope.

More than 1 in 7 children in Oakland County don’t have enough to eat and more families are experiencing homelessness today than ever before. We witness this every day at our food pantries and family shelter where demand exceeds capacity.

We recognize that more must be done to prevent the traumas of homelessness and hunger while responding to them, and that is why Lighthouse has launched the Lighting the Way campaign to alleviate poverty.

This $36 million initiative will address the urgent and unmet need for family emergency shelter, help eliminate food insecurity, increase the availability of supportive services, and create pathways out of poverty for individuals and families in our community.
