Performing runs in Amanda Lyberg’s blood.
The Lincoln Park native has been singing for as long as she can remember. When told that singing wasn’t a “viable career choice,” she decided to go to school for psychology, but that didn’t stop the music.
Her passion for both music and psychology turned out to be the perfect duet. She’s a practicing clinical therapist in the Royal Oak area and also sings professionally for the popular Detroit rock band Eva Under Fire.
“Part of what I love about music, rock ‘n’ roll specifically, is the ability to connect with others on a meaningful level,” said Lyberg. “Connecting with people through therapy seemed like a good option.”
Lyberg is no stranger to Lighthouse events; her band took part in this year’s Lighthouse LIVE 12-hour live stream in May. She admits the opportunity to join Dancing with the Detroit Stars came as a complete surprise, but she’s excited to play another role to assist Lighthouse.
The self-proclaimed “cool aunt” is married to a fellow rocker and is a proud fur momma to two cats.
This is her first dance competition and, although her dance experience is limited, Lyberg is thankful she can help the organization raise money for those in need, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
“I’m grateful that entertaining events, like this, have survived in the 2020 chaos. People need a reason to smile and enjoy life a little while participating in an event that’s helping others. I think that’s the power of positivity at work,” she said. “Events like Dancing With the Stars are needed now more than ever.”
The 12th annual Flagstar’s Dancing with the Stars will be held virtually Nov. 21. Proceeds from the event help fight homelessness and poverty in Oakland County. Learn more at detroitdancing.org.
