Two sisters from Oxford are proving that no one is too young to make a difference. Hazel and Alice Nicosia, just 10 and 8 years old, aren’t only collecting food — they’re feeding their neighbors, lifting up families in need, and rallying an entire community around compassion and giving.
It all began six years ago, when Hazel, then only 4, saw someone experiencing homelessness and told her mom she wanted to help. That small spark of kindness led the family to partner with Lighthouse and “Little Friendsgiving” was born. What started as one little girl’s idea to feed others has blossomed into a powerful community effort.
Now, Hazel and Alice lead classmates, families, friends, and neighbors in sorting, packing, and delivering food donations for families across metro Detroit. This year alone, their “Little Friendsgiving” food drive is expected to bring in an incredible 3 tons of food — enough to provide meals for hundreds of local families. In total, the sisters have helped collect more than ten tons of food over the past six years, feeding thousands and turning generosity into action.
