Honey’s CEO will compete in Dancing with the Detroit Stars to help raise $100,000 and expand services for women in PATH program
Moms make things happen, and a newly launched fund-raising campaign to help women in Lighthouse’s PATH program is a shining example.
More than 200 supporters turned out for the Golden Light Gala on Oct. 3 to help celebrate the launch of a new partnership between Lighthouse and Honey Space For Moms – a one-stop support shop for metro Detroit moms, located in Ferndale.
The goal: to raise $100,000 and bring Honey Space’s therapy and prenatal and breastfeeding support groups to women in the Lighthouse PATH program, which helps women who’ve endured domestic violence or homelessness get back on the road to self-sufficiency.
The evening was filled with hope, hugs and a surprise announcement for guests.
“I’ll be competing in Lighthouse’s Dancing with the Detroit Stars fund-raiser in November!” said Brooke Miller, CEO and founder of Honey Space for Moms. “I can’t wait! Lighthouse is such a tremendous organization and we look forward to bringing Honey’s services to moms who really need it.”
As guests arrived at Honey’s newly expanded clubhouse, a warm glow emanated from the storefront. Outside, Lighthouse pantry manager James McQueen helped to collect donated supplies for moms in need. By evening’s end, a Lighthouse van was packed to the brim with car seats and other must-haves for new moms.
Inside, guests enjoyed appetizers, mingled and marveled at the beautiful space.
Throughout the event, a projector displayed a real-time tally of funds raised for this campaign. To date, thousands have been been raised to bring Honey services to women in the Lighthouse PATH program. But more help is needed.
Consider:
- A $25 donation will cover postpartum hygiene supplies for one new mother.
- $70 will pay for private therapy.
- $100 will provide 6 weeks of therapeutic group support.
The evening took an emotional turn when Miller read a speech from Angela Gill, the Lighthouse staffer who helped facilitate the partnership and who could not attend in person.
“It hurts my heart to see a mama come into Lighthouse on her way to give birth, still worrying about basic necessities, like not having a car seat,” Gill wrote. “When Brooke and I chatted about a partnership between Lighthouse and Honey it made so much sense.”
Miller reflected on how far Honey has come since it opened three years ago and how much more it can do, especially with a partner like Lighthouse.
“We are so grateful for the support of the Honey team. We look forward to providing Honey’s services to women experiencing motherhood and crisis at the same time,” said Ryan Hertz, Lighthouse CEO and father of two, including a newborn daughter.
