She sang vocals on the smash hit “Dancing in The Street” – now Motown diva Martha Reeves will be dancing in your feed during this year’s virtual Dancing with the Detroit Stars to benefit Lighthouse.

The award-winning R&B and pop singer and former Detroit City Council Member is the lead singer of the group Martha and the Vandellas. They have more than a dozen hit singles to their credit include “Heat Wave” and “Jimmy Mack.”

Martha was born in Alabama and grew up in Detroit, one of 11 children in a churchgoing family. Her grandfather, Rev. Elijah Reeves was a minister at Detroit’s Metropolitan Church. She attended Detroit’s Northeastern High School and inherited her love of music from her parents.

In addition to their smash hits, Martha and the Vandellas appeared on American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show and many others. Ms. Reeves’ storied career includes live performances, movie soundtracks, acting, a best-selling autobiography, and a seat on the Detroit City Council from 2005 – 2009. Now, she’ll add Dancing with the Stars to her long list of performances. We are truly honored to have her participation in this year’s event.
