There are many ways to give a planned gift to Lighthouse. Whether you are creating your first will, or revisiting your plans in your retirement years, our team will work with you to find the charitable plan that works best for you. If you have already included Lighthouse in your estate planning, please notify us by filling out our Planned Gift Notification Form and emailing it to Michelle Olmsted at molmsted@lighthousemi.org.
You can include Lighthouse as a beneficiary in your estate planning through your will, life insurance policy, retirement plans, and other planned giving tools. This can be set up as a gift of a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the remainder of your estate. Lighthouse has Sample Language available that can be used when adding Lighthouse as a beneficiary.
Individuals 73 or older may make a donation up to $100,000 by transferring money directly to a qualified charitable organization without being subject to income taxes on the distribution. It is wise to consult with a financial or tax professional if you are contemplating a charitable gift under this law. Distributions must come directly to Lighthouse from your IRA to qualify for this opportunity.
A donor advised fund, or DAF, is an account where you can deposit assets for donation to charity over time. You can support Lighthouse through your DAF or speak to your financial advisor about setting one up.

If you are 73 or older, you may also be interested in having your IRA funds directly transferred to Lighthouse to provide life-changing opportunities for those in need in our community. Judith Samuel learned the importance of giving back from her mother, who spent many hours volunteering while raising four children.
After retiring from Royal Oak High School where she worked as a special education teacher, Judith began volunteering at Lighthouse with a friend. She developed a strong connection to her fellow volunteers and an appreciation for the work Lighthouse was doing.
When Judith passed away in 2022, her entire estate was donated to the charities that she cared about the most – including Lighthouse. Her foresight and generosity through planned giving will allow her legacy to live on through Lighthouse’s mission and provide life-changing support and hope to local families and individuals in need.
